Deliberate Stupidity

Forget for one second that the Republican Party supported the most vile human ever to run for public office (Trump), or that they live in the pockets of big business at the expense of every single working-class American. I guess some people are willing to overlook that, but when Texas Governor Greg Abbott decided today to open every single state business 100 percent as of Wednesday and rescind the state-wide mask mandate, he moved from the realm of incompetent into the lane of deliberately stupid and evil.

The recent good news on the Covid virus has finally given us hope. The numbers have been going down across the board, infections, hospitalizations and deaths, while the number of vaccinations per day have been climbing daily. I guess, for Governor Abbott, the news was to good, so he decided to prematurely derail the train and with it all the positive news.

Using all the metrics, if we stayed the course for about another month or two, we could finally have this virus licked and start to get back to normal, but instead, they've decided to create yet a fourth spike by opening up all the night clubs and bars just in time for spring break, which should allow the virus to be passed all around the nation yet again. College students going to South Padre for Spring Break could be infected and then travel home to make others in their respective communities sick.

Abbott, who has been under unrelenting criticism for his and the Texas' Republican Parties failure to deal with the weather crisis during the last few weeks, now has announced that he will open the state in full starting next Wednesday. It's almost as if they want the virus to keep making people sick, and for it to continue to mutate to the point where the vaccines become ineffective.

This insane announcement comes on the heels of news that Trump, and first lady Melania, were vaccinated for covid in January before he left office. Clearly, he should have been vaccinated because he was the President at the time, but I think it is odd that he didn't do so publicly, and didn't tell his worshippers - the members of the cult - that they too should get vaccinated, which would helped the country reach heard immunity faster. Again, deliberate stupidity, or maybe just pure evil.

Abbott is not alone. The Republican governor of Mississippi, Tate Reeves, is also lifting the mask mandate. "The governor's office is getting out of the business of telling people what they can and cannot do," Reeves said. One can only hope that this does not serve as an excuse for people to stop using masks prematurely, which goes against all medical advise.

What is it about Republicans that makes them so ignorant and reckless. At first, I believed they were being obtuse with covid to simply please dear leader - otherwise known as Donald Trump. However, it turns out they are all just as ignorant as he was if not more so.
